Bridge and cruising have gone together for decades. A bridge cruise combines daily lessons and duplicate games with the ports and comforts of a ship.

How a Bridge Cruise Works

A bridge organizer books a group of cabins on a regular sailing and reserves a private room for play. On sea days there are usually morning lessons or lectures and afternoon duplicate games; on port days the schedule is lighter or there is an evening session. A director runs the games, and well-known players or teachers often host. Players of different levels are usually welcome, and partners can often be arranged.

Choosing a Bridge Cruise

  • Check how many sessions are scheduled and on which days.
  • Ask whether games are sanctioned and what kind of points are awarded.
  • Find out who teaches, and whether lessons suit your level.
  • Ask about partner matching if you are traveling alone.
  • Confirm any program fee on top of the cruise fare.

Bridge Cruise FAQ

Can I earn masterpoints on a bridge cruise?

Many hosted bridge cruises run sanctioned games where players can earn masterpoints, and some advertise gold points. Confirm with the organizer which games are sanctioned and by which body before you book.

Do I need a partner?

Not always. Many bridge cruises help single players find partners for each session. Say so when you book.

Bringing Your Own Bridge Club

A club with enough members can arrange its own sailing, with a playing room reserved through the cruise line’s group department. See organizing a game group cruise for how it works.

A Typical Sea Day on a Bridge Cruise

TimeWhat usually happens
MorningLesson or lecture on bidding, play or defense
Late morningFree time, or a supervised practice session
AfternoonDuplicate game, often the main event of the day
EveningDinner with the group, results posted, the ship’s show

Port days usually drop the afternoon game so players can go ashore, with an evening session after sail-away instead. Schedules differ by organizer; ask for a sample day before you book.
