Game & Tournament Cruise FAQ

Are game cruises expensive?

The cruise fare is the same as for any guest on that sailing. Hosted programs may add a program fee for lessons, directors and the playing room. Ask what is included before you compare.

What if I am a beginner?

Many hosted groups welcome newcomers and run lessons for different levels. Say so when you book so the organizer can place you well.

Do games stop on port days?

Usually the schedule is lighter on port days so players can go ashore. Evening sessions are common after the ship sails.

Is there Wi-Fi for online games?

Most ships sell internet packages, but speeds and prices vary and connections can drop at sea. Do not plan to rely on it for online play.

Can teenagers join trivia and games?

Yes. Ship trivia and most daytime games are open to all ages, and many ships run separate teen activities. Casino play is restricted by age.

What should I pack for a game cruise?

Your own cards, tiles or travel sets if you have favorites, a notebook for scores, reading glasses, a light sweater for air-conditioned rooms and something smart for the group dinner.

Can I book a game cruise as a solo traveler?

Yes. Game groups are among the easiest places to meet people at sea, and many organizers help single players find partners or tables. Ask about single cabin options and supplements when you get a quote.

What happens if the playing room is needed for something else?

Group space is agreed with the line in advance, but schedules can shift. A good organizer confirms rooms in writing and has a back-up plan, such as a quiet lounge.

Where can I learn about other theme cruises?

Our sister site Special Interest Cruises covers music, food, hobbies and more, and Sporting Cruises covers sports-themed sailings.

Before You Book

  • Decide whether you want a hosted program or simply a ship with plenty of games.
  • Check the number of sea days on the itinerary.
  • Ask about any program fee and what it covers.
  • Check casino age rules if any member of your party is under 21.

Our sister sites Special Interest Cruises and Sporting Cruises cover other themed sailings.

Hosted Program or Ship Activities?

If you play casually, the ship’s own program — trivia, bingo, deck games and a card room — may be all you need, and it costs nothing extra beyond bingo cards or casino play. If you want lessons, ranked games, a director and a room full of serious players, a hosted program is worth the added fee. Many players try one hosted cruise and become regulars; others prefer to keep the game informal and the holiday flexible. Neither is wrong, and our advisors can help you decide which suits your game and your travel companions.
